The life of Albert Edward Smart and Ellen Louisa Spriggs

Albert Edward Smart was born on 13^th February 1911 at 19 Rochford Street, St. Pancras, London.

His parents were George Charles Smart and Louisa Smith.

On 30^th July 1932 Albert married *Ellen Louisa Spriggs ( born on 5^th August 1911 at 185 Prince of Wales Road, Chalk Farm) at Hampstead Registry Office, London. His father was one of the witnesses and William Spriggs; Ellen’s father was the other.

At the time of the wedding Albert’s profession was listed as a general labourer, and the couple’s residence is shown as 64 Fleet Road, the residence of *Ellen’s parents.

At some time they moved to 45 Queens Crescent, Camden Town, London

Together they had 5 children:

Anthony Albert Smart born on 18^th November 1932

Terence (Buck) William Smart born on 11^th July 1936

Brian Alan Smart born on 26^th March 1939

Patricia Smart born 11^th April 1942

Delia (Babsie) Rose Smart born 8^th May 1949

Albert died on 23^rd November 1980 after a long battle with cancer. He was buried at East Finchley Cemetery on 7^th December.

Ellen died in Hampstead Free Hospital on 9^th January 1985 and was buried with her husband at East Finchley Cemetery on the 17^th January 1986.

*On her birth certificate “Ellen” is recorded, but on the marriage certificate “Helen” appears. She was known to all as “Lou”.
